She's Crafty!

She gets around, she's crafty, she's always down!

So Halloween, as most of you should know, is my second favorite holiday EVER. I just love it so much. Decorating, carving pumpkins, the amazing colors in the mountains, the crisp air, the trick or treating...
So decorating for Halloween is my absolute favorite thing to do, and I have always wanted to go all out every year. Well this is the first year that I am not a broke college student and not living in an apartment, so I FINALLY am starting to get some sweet decorations put together. Last week I went crazy with the Halloween decorations and crafts. And tonight I made this out of them:

I made the whole thing! I even bought the grapevine wreath and spray painted it black. I honestly didn't know I was so crafty. No offense, but I feel like I am officially a Utahn. I have some other pretty cool decorations, but this one by far tops them. When I actually have a house and possibly some small children, I am going to make my whole house a haunted house. From mid September through October, I am going to have the spooky sounds CD playing and spider webs all over the hallways and doorways, and my lawn is going to look SOOO spooky. I promise, no blow up cheesy characters. It's going to look like a real life creepy old cemetery.

I also just wanted to share some of my favorite things and pastimes of Halloween since I can't stop thinking about it and the reminiscing is so much fun.
Some of my most memorable Halloween nights have been with my best friend from 5th grade, Heather. When we were younger (yes we probably did this throughout junior high), we used to get together with her brothers and sisters and neighbors to make a haunted house in her basement. We just had so much fun putting it together, I don't think it would have mattered if anyone came to it. Her mom made the BEST sugar cookies with cream cheese frosting and we would make them for the kids that paid to come through it. I'm sure this was so lame, but I just remember having the most fun ever and I don't really care if it really was lame.

My same friend, Heather, and our other friend, Lyndy, and I all used to go trick-or-treating together. We got together before we went out to make sure our costumes rocked and headed out to hunt down the neighbor with the best candy. We would go with our pillowcases and after we were done, we spent the rest of the night switching out our candy to make sure we all got the most of our favorite candy. Those were some fun times.

I never really have wanted to ever grow up and I'm sure I still haven't grown up. When I was a freshman in college, I still was in denial that we just didn't stop trick-or-treating. I always thought that it had to end sometime, but it for sure wasn't going to be this year, or the next, or the next. My two friends in the dorms and I dressed up and went trick-or-treating around Cedar City. After about the 3rd person that asked us if we were a little old, I started to get really sad and it had never occurred to me that I really was getting too old for it. I still remember where I was standing when this happened and the mean old man that made me realize it.

The most interesting Halloween I have had was two years ago when I was living in Vegas. We decided to all get together and go to the strip for the night. Not the best idea when going with a group from church that doesn't want to go to the club. Not much else to do on the strip. I had my favorite costume-a dead ballerina-and we headed out. My friend Jody had the coolest costume I could ever see. It was Flava Flave. She wore the dark makeup and looked exactly like him. The best part was when she didn't like someone she met she would tell them their time was up and pour some of the "wine" out on the floor in front of them. So a security guard watched as we were in Caesars and got a little upset. He came and talked to her and she told him that his time was up and poured the glass out right in front of him. The best part was that he just laughed and shook his head. My friend was one of his girlfriends. I can't remember the name though. What made it the most interesting was the other girls' "costumes". They weren't so much costumes as they were basically just naked. You know those slutty costumes that come out for one night a year? These didn't even compare. I still remember one girl that wore a tiny tiny little see through white dress. There was no point in bothering with the dress, and I'm still not sure what she was for Halloween. Best costume ever went to this guy we passed that dressed up as Dave Chappelle dressed up as the 'crack cocaine' dealer. It's cocaine in a can! Haha! I love that show.

One of my favorite books from my childhood is Which Witch is Which? I think I got this through the Scholastic booklet when I was in first grade. I think this book stands out so well in my mind because it had stickers, and probably because it was about Halloween. I'm pretty sure we still have it somewhere at my parents house. I just thought it was so clever, the play on words.

My all time favorite Halloween movie ever is Hocus Pocus. I absolutely LOVE this movie because it is everything that Halloween should be. It's not gory and bloody and gross, yet it's scary enough to be a spooky Halloween movie, and it's not a cheesy kids movie. I used to watch Hocus Pocus even in March or June. I just love it. The Sanderson sisters always creeped me out but made me laugh at the same time. Bette Midler made me hate and love her. My favorite part of the movie is when Sarah Jessica Parker starts jumping up and down and saying, "Amuck, amuck, amuck, amuck" If you saw it, you would love it too.

He is just my favorite. His little outburst at the end of the movie has always made me laugh so hard!

Before Hocus Pocus came out, Beetlejuice was for sure my favorite Halloween movie. I just loved it and never quite understood it at the same time. I loved it so much, that I used to watch the Beetlejuice cartoon anytime it was on. Does anyone else remember this cartoon version? I might just actually like the cartoon better than I like the movie.

I could go on and on and on about great Halloween memories because every one of them have been so awesome. I'm just so excited to be in the Halloween spirit and getting decorated and dressed up! Going through all of these memories, I think I have finally decided that Halloween really is and has been my favorite holiday. The fourth of July is pretty cool, but you don't get to celebrate it as long as you do for Halloween. And there aren't as many Fourth of July movies as there are Halloween movies. Oh, I'm totally going to be in this awesome horror movie this year. Filming starts tomorrow night. It's going to rock, but it won't be released until after the first showing. So you'll just have to wait.

I also love your craft. I went to Tai Pan Trading today and they had tons of Halloween stuff. I was tempted to buy it all. OK, not ALL of it. Some of it was lame.
