Anyway, it was such a perfect place to do a tri, and I thought, if my 50 year old dad can do it, this is pathetic that I can't. So I have been determined to do it ever since. Well, the next year I was getting ready for it, and I was running on the track and somehow hurt my foot without even knowing it. I got home from running and my foot all of the sudden started swelling. It didn't stop swelling. My dad said it looked like "Elephantitis". It was so cool. Really. It went all the way up to about halfway up my calf and I couldn't walk on it for a very long time. The pediatrists have no clue what happened or how to fix it. (Even now, YEARS later, they still can't figure it out.) So the tri didn't happen that summer. Or the summer after that, or the summer after that.
This summer, it's my year. I'm doing it, and my swollen foot IS NOT going to stop me. I have only been training for a couple of weeks now, and I get so excited! Still a little nervous for that anticipation on race day, but I am not going to let my laziness stop me this time. I even had my bike tuned up this weekend so I can start riding it to work. Luckily Trax goes back up the steep hill to my house! Wink! We'll see how I feel by 600 East.
I can't believe I've had the dedication I've had for the past two weeks. It's really amazing that I have made myself get back into running and biking every day. Well almost every day. If it weren't for my friend I'm training with, I would probably still be saying that I'll do the triathlon next summer.
